PSFK Conference Singapore, Jeff Staple & a whole bunch of fun...
The PSFK conference was a smash, MutantStyle had a great time. Special thanks to Paul & Brian from poolatwork. Also, we got to meet the man himself Jeff Staple (the guy behind the legendary Nike pidgeon dunk, amongst other cool stuff), who shared some of his insights with us in an exclusive 'creative workshop / show & tell' session hosted by MTV Asia.
And now, for some pictures... (all shots courtesy of SiPing a.k.a Pixel Pastry).

The Asian leg of the PSFK conference was held in The Asian Civilization Museum here in Singapore...

The MINI cooper convoy arrives...with PSFK delegates...wicked stuff...

The Italian Job in Singapore?

No Singapore event is complete without the usual mingling and fooood.....

Our artwork was exhibited at Superfamous, the after party...

We also invited our friend DJ Ikuma to spin some mashed up 8-bit electro tunes.
The dude rocks. Fellow MutantStyle member Roger was/is still in HK, too bad for him...haha.. he was
missing all the fun :P He can comfort himself with some DimSum and HK porridge... :P

The Day Before: A session with Jeff Staple... >

Jeff Staple + an all star cast of superb creatives :P

We were deep in thought and meditation...

After I suggested we have a Singapore 'AWE50ME' group show at Jeff's legendary Reed Space in NYC,
Jeff said we had to come up with an interesting way to present the diverse work from the 10 Singaporean
creatives/groups present in the room that day...as you can see both myself and Antz are thinking hard....that and
who is going to fund our air-tickets if such a thing were to ever materialize...not to mention accomodation
and other things, the last time I visited New York (on holiday) I saw and learnt alot but it did not come cheap... :X
Which is why I freelance for clients... Gotta fund the artistic shit, unless you're Damien Hirst...and your
average auction works sells for a collected $200++ million...

Jeff dropped us some insights and tips to making our 'creative dreams' a reality, and how the artist/designer
should also be aware of the business aspect of things, especially when you're working on making your own
pet projects happen...etc...

Despite his fame, Jeff was a down to earth guy who has obviously come up a long way through nothing else
but hard work, good timing and determination. Jeff mentioned; "when I was starting out there were the same 10 guys
above me doing all the cool stuff...I had to bust my ass and worked real hard to get into the circle...", "When I was
starting out there were 10 shops, now there are two of such places left...mine and one other..." "In a span of ten years..."

It's a rough world out there...but as my personal philosophy goes; do what you love and if life throws you some
punches just wipe the blood off and carry on...either that or re-evaluate your options :X

We met alot of other cool people in-between breaks at the PSFK conference...
Rob Campbell from Sunshine / M&C Saatchi was especially funny with his presentation
and it was great to converse with him later via email And of course MutantStyle will be
working on trying to get our t-shirts sold at Jeff's Reed Space in NYC, but first we gotta
make a proper catalogue...

However, one of the most interesting (also hectic) experience we had in relation to the PSFK conference was:
The putting together of the AWE50ME book featuring us (MutantStyle) alongside other creative mavericks
in the Singapore scene hailing from the AWE50ME network. This project was co-ordinated, planned, art directed,
designed and printed in record time...which is somewhat of a miracle, considering we were handling other projects
outside of this as well as preparing for our then upcoming art exhibition... All in all this was an AWE50ME experience...
ok here are some of the results:

It's a wrap...
